Nine Out of Ten Tags Up
On December 14, right on schedule, the tag from Fish 9 reported from the Line Islands, 897 nautical miles south of Hawaii. This tag, co-sponsored by Team Malaka and Bob and Sally Kurz, was deployed on a 100-lb. marlin caught by Betty Ann Scott and tagged by Captain Marlin Parker from his boat the Marlin Magic II. This was the smallest marlin tagged in this year's race, and its exciting to see that the tag went the full 120 days. Despite the impressive duration of this deployment, the distance puts Fish 9 in fourth place - and Fish 1 remains in the lead, with a distance of 2,282 nautical miles.

So we now have heard from 9 of the 10 tags that were deployed, and the remaining tag - Fish 7 - is 8 days overdue. Although rare, we have had instances where tags have reported as much as 10 days after their scheduled release date - so we are going to give it a few more days before we officially declare a winner.
