2011 San Juan IBT Updates

December has been a busy month for the San Juan Great Marlin Race, with three more tags reporting.
On December 7, two of the six tags deployed during the SJIBT reported. One of them, from Fish 4, was deployed on September 8 by James Fullana on a 125-lb. marlin caught by Antonio Fullana on the Bolita. This is our current race leader, having reported at a distance of 589 nautical miles from where it was tagged. The second place tag, from Fish 6, was deployed the next day on a 200-lb. marlin, caught by Mariana Foster and Tagged by Jorge Rivera on the Lucky Dog. It reported at a distance of 497 nautical miles from where it was deployed. On December 20 another tag reported - this one from Fish 2 - an 80-lb. marlin caught by Gerald Torres and tagged by Moises Torrent on Batichica. This tag surfaced 206 miles from where it was deployed, putting it in fourth place. So as we go into the holidays, we have five of the six deployed tags having reported, with one to go (the Fish 3 tag, which was pout out on a 575-lb. marlin caugh on Sea Born.) This tag is programmed to release during the first week of the new year, so we'll be watching carefully. |
