A New Tag, A New Leader and a New Record
December 1 marked exactly 120 days after the first marlin tag was deployed in the 2010 Great Marlin Race, and right on time, the tag from Fish 1 surfaced - 2,282 nm from where it was tagged. This tag, sponsored by WESPAC, was deployed on a 150-lb. marlin caught by Kerry Kurz and tagged by his brother Bob, fishing aboard the Sea Baby III with Captain Doug Pattengill and crewed by Bill Dorr. The distance travelled by this fish not only makes it the new race leader, it also breaks last year's record distance of 2,225 nautical miles.

It is interesting to note, as the last tags report, that this year we haven't seen any of the fish head to the southern hemisphere as three marlin did last year. We still have three tags remaining in the race, though, with due dates coming in the next two weeks. And as we've already seen, anything is possible!
